The Duluth postal processing center has been closed for almost a week now and we are finally finding out what the impact will be on the businesses and citizens of our fair city.
All of the mail from Duluth is now being sent down to St. Paul, MN for processing, which means that afternoon mail service is no longer available to us. The mail truck leaves Duluth at 3:30PM every weekday, which means that our mail cut-off is now 2:00PM.
This schedule greatly limits our ability to process orders on the same day the order is placed using a postal shipping method. Consequently, orders placed using the US Mail services will have at least one day added onto the shipping time. Most orders will be filled on they day that is placed, but, because of the new pick-up schedule, they will actually go to the post office the next day. If there is an unusual number of orders on a day, or if the order is a large one, the delay might be more than one day.
Note that this delay is only for orders placed with the mail services. The schedule for FedEx services is unchanged and the pick-up deadline for FedEx Express remains 4:30PM. Orders received by 11:00AM Central Time and shipped with FedEx will be eligible for same-day shipping.
